Planned Rescue

October 23, 2018.

Dear Diary,

The back of a police car could never feel as inviting as it did today.

I rose early this morning, rushed to work to welcome chaperone parents and excited students for a long-awaited field trip to the Festival.

🚶🏾‍♀️It was a tiring day, though surpassing my 8,000-steps goal was glorious!🚶🏾‍♀️It made up for the two festival servings of tiramasu and a 🍗 huge genetically-engineered turkey leg.🍗 NEVER again!

After “serving my time” in parent pick-up duty, I scooted off to pick up my own. Then on to the 35-minute trek to their daddy for his university team’s senior soccer celebration.

I wouldn’t stay, though.

“Marissa, I can take them from here. You go home and rest,” my thoughtful Andrew insisted.

Rest?

That’s precisely what I need right about now, I thought.

Rest!

Yes!

I’ll confess…I was flat-out tired!

I felt I was running on fumes. Little did I know how true that would become.

In route home, GPS led me down memory pain…

Like clockwork, just as I passed the place…the unexpected happened!

It felt as if there were invisible tentacles pulling me back. My car crept…rolling resistantly forward, while I feverishly checked the dashboard for the car-crippling culprit.

Gas…or better yet, the lack thereof!

I was running on fumes…literally!

Realizing that the inevitable stall was seconds away, I pulled my car off the road into a newly developed subdivision and stayed

…and prayed.

What next? I’m alone. Twelve minutes driving distance away from home.

(Now cue Lauren Diagle’s “Rescue” song.)

🎶You are not hidden

There’s never been a moment

You were forgotten

You are not hopeless

Though you have been broken

Your innocence stolen

I hear you whisper underneath your breath

I hear your SOS, your SOS🎶

I called for help:

🚨 “911. What’s your emergency?” 🚨

📱My car is stranded. I ran out of gas.📱

🚨We’ll send a patrol as soon as possible.”🚨

Yay! I hope my rescuer will be fast!

Ten minutes turned into twenty.

Pitch black night,

but the street light above was plenty.

I was alone but not hidden.

The darkness is like light to Him,

but what about the patrol that was bidden?

It’s now 30 minutes til 10.

Highway patrol had possibly forgotten, but my dear friend Jessica wouldn’t be so rotten! 😉

📱Jessica, you wouldn’t believe what happened!📱

📲Where are you? My husband will send a friend your way… His cop buddy is coming from an incident in Wellford…All you have to do is stay.📲

📱But what about the gas? Will he have the tank to supply?📱

📲No, probably not. Why don’t you give another friend a try. 📲

I tried calling another to bring gas, but help from her would not come.

When he arrived the cop called a police brother,

who was at the closest gas station with the perfect sum.

$12.00

That’s what he spent to buy me a gas tank. He graced me with it as I exited the cop car.

He didn’t know me from forbidden-fruit Eve, but from Grace’s reach an empty tank wasn’t far.

🎶I will send out an army to find you

In the middle of the darkest night

It’s true, I will rescue you🎶

And so I was rescued. A wife called her deputy beau, he called his cop buddy, who called his cop friend.

An “army” of THREE worked together to lend tired me a helping hand.

Diary, I could not but see the parallel. He’s an ever-present help in trouble…

He was with me without fail!

Coming to my rescue “on the triple” not just the “double.”

In my haste I lost sight of the empty warning light.

I was running on empty…

🎶In the middle of the hardest fight.🎶

🎶[But God heard] the whisper underneath [my] breath

[He heard me whisper, I] have nothing left🎶

🎶I will send out an army to find you

In the middle of the darkest night

It’s true, I will rescue you

I will never stop marching to reach you

In the middle of the hardest fight🎶

You see, even in my deepest darkness, His presence provides the light.

Cop graciously filling my tank with gas.

Through taking me back to memory pain, I realized that He provided the gracious “new lane.”

A new subdivisions–that was also my saving grace.

He knew I’d need it one day, so in advance He prepared a parking place.

He knew that my negligence would leave me in an empty bind, but in the darkest night His grace still has power to find.

🎶It’s true, I will rescue you

Oh, I will rescue you🎶

He took me back to memory pain so I could recall what grace will do!

He took me back to memory pain, to fix my mind on what is true:

“Marissa, before you had a clue, your Savior had a planned rescue!

“You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. With your hand of love upon my life, you impart a blessing to me. This is just too wonderful, deep, and incomprehensible! Your understanding of me brings me wonder and [joyfilled] strength.”
